Wellness Sponsored Programs


CONDOM AVAILABILITY PROGRAM The CAP program provides students with an opportunity to learn how to be responsible in his or her relationship if the student is sexually active or if he or she just wants more information.  Counseling is provided around birth control, STI prevention and treatment, safe sex, and abstinence. Information and free condoms are provided to students in a confidential setting. The nurse has condom distribution day in room 129 every Wednesday from 1:30 - 3:30PM.

FREE STI TESTING New Generation Health Center provides free STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) testing to students at Lowell in room 129 once a month.  Clinic days are the 3rd Thursday of every month from 12:00 - 1:30PM.  This program provides an opportunity for students to receive counseling on STI prevention, treatment, safe sex, and abstinence.  Students should sign-up in advance on using their initials in room 129.  This is confidental and no blood is drawn. 

Yoga Club All students of any skill level are welcome to come and participate in Lowell's Yoga Club.  Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Sign up with Jenessa Bayda in T-14A or come to Room S103 after school every Tuesday from April 15 - May 20.

BBSO MENTOR PROGRAM The Big Brother Big Sister Organization pairs upperclassmen with freshman in an effort to make the freshmen feel welcome and supported at Lowell throughout the year. Find out more information about this group in T-14 or room 129. 

GAY STRAIGHT ALLIANCE/COMING OUT GROUP The GSA provides education and empowerment of sexual minority youth and their allies to fight stereotyping and homophobia at Lowell. The GSA also provides a save a confidential space for youth ready to discuss their sexual orientation for the first time. The GSA meets on Wednesday at 3:30PM in Room 321!

Job/Employment Resources: Every year, before school lets out, we connect youth with job opportunities all over San Francisco and the Bay Area.

College-Bound Student Resources: The Wellness Center provides information about free, community-based organizations and colleges, as many of us recently graduated from college.

Health Presentations:  Students offer several health presentations every year, available to whichever teachers sign up with the Wellness Center. If we don't have what you are looking for, feel free to tell us the topic you wish to learn more about. We're more than happy to help educate students about health-related topics!

Youth Outreach Worker Program: Eight Lowell students are hired every year as part of our Youth Outreach Worker program to provide health education presentations to classrooms, attend youth health conferences and trainings, and promote health events hosted by Wellness and community organizations. They are reimbursed for their time and efforts via a stipend.

Support and Theraputic Groups: Periodically, students are offered the chance to participate in a confidential and comfortable space. IN the past, we have held a Guys Group for queer and questioning boys, an African-American Gril's Group, Yoga for Students, and a Body Positive image group.

School-Wide Heath Awareness Events:  Several school-aide events promoting substance-free living, healthy lifestyles, and STI awareness are held every year, including Red Ribbon Week, World AIDS day, community resource fairs, nutrition and fitness programming, Rainbow Week, health education theater presentations and Prom Prep week.
